It baffles me how two persons will be friends for years or in a relationship for months, never thinking they needed to part ways until suddenly something happens and you see them label themselves as wicked, heartless and worthless just based on a single event.
We come across many persons in life. We often have so many persons in our lives too. How do we know the perfect person for a committed relationship?
Every relationship should consciously be instituted with the mindset of being committed to each other. We have tried to define what commitment in a Christian relationship connotes in my previous article.
Everyone is in a relationship. We understand this well when we realize the various platforms on which relationship exists and classify them as type of relationship.
Our understanding is also enlightened as we consider the various ways in which these types of relationship played out in the bible.
As such, this article is aimed at outlining the various bible chapters describing each of the various relationships cadre as listed in my previous article.
There are three virtues that form the pods upon which every lasting relationship is built. They are:
These virtues are all indispensable but not all equally important.
Inarguably, Biblical LOVE; agape love, is the most important because it believes all things and honors others. As we read in Paul’s letter to the Corinthians quoted in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7which reads thus;
Someone’s Birthday is tagged to be a day that is an exact day of the months, in which the person was born, in every preceding year. It is always observed with a spirit of celebration and gratitude to God. In most places, it is associated with such activities like a joyful birthday songs, cutting of birthday cakes, lighting candles, receiving gifts, birthday cards and wishes/prayers from loved ones.
Birthday celebration has quite become a global practice.. However, it is one of the big controversy across the various Christian denominations. Just in the same light with other Christian celebrations like Christmas, mother’s day, etc.. So, it is not strange to see some schools of thought disposing the acceptance of birthday celebrations as a normal Christian practices.
The account of our Lord’s dealings with Mary and her sibling is one with enormous spiritual insights. Albeit, we would only take a toll on the aspects of their relationship to further our knowledge on covenant relationship.
Just as our grace level grows proportionately to the level of the knowledge of God we have. So also do the knowledge of one another we have afford us with a measure of grace with one another necessary for an effective purposeful relationship.
Continuing with the series on covenant relationship, the friendship of David and Jonathan highlights enormously the terms that compose the content of what constitutes covenant relationship. There would be no where in the church where the subject of friendship is being discussed that references would not be made to David and Jonathan’s. There doesn’t seem to be a godlier example of friendship in the Bible.
Friendship with mutual privilege to each other and covenant friendship is the two basic relationship a Christian needs to make a successful journey of his/her life. Get details on covenant relationship here.
The case of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is another biblical examples of Covenant relationships that is completely Divine. Theirs is a highlight of Proverbs 18:24 ‘a friend who sticks closer than a brother’. The Divine factor in their relationship is most overwhelming in the various ways God used them to show King Nebuchadnezzar and the entire Babylonians that God is great and the only God .
Friendship, if chosen right, can be a great source of love, healing, joy, knowledge, mentorship, influence, companionship, partnership, motivation, encouragement etc.
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Many attempt to define virginity brings the above verse of the Bible to mind.
